SIBM An Overview
Syndicate Institute of Bank Management (SIBM), located at Manipal, in the backdrop of luxuriant Western Ghats, is the apex training institution of SyndicateBank for honing skills in banking and management for the bank's executives and senior personnel. The Institute was set up in November 1987. The institute has a sprawling campus of 15 acres, offering a panoramic view of the green valley on the east and Arabian Sea in the west. The fully residential Institute, with all modern infrastructure expected in an Institution of this nature, like well-equipped classrooms, library, computer laboratory, conference hall and auditorium, also offers a variety of recreation facilities, including a modern gymnasium, 5-hole golf course, mini-cricket ground, volleyball courts, indoor games, jogging track and so on. Shady fruit bearing trees, medicinal plants, rose garden and other recreational facilities are provided to rejuvenate the body and mind The hostel has 65 fully air-conditioned and tastefully furnished rooms.
Training Centres & their activities
SIBM, under its wings, has seven Training Centres, at Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Ernakulam. While Training Centres cater to the training needs of Junior Management and Workmen employees in all areas of Banking operations, SIBM imparts training on Specialised areas. Like SIBM, Training Centres are also well equipped with all modern learning aids, like computer lab, library, multi-media projectors etc.
Training activities of the Bank are governed by the policies and procedures laid down in the Training Manual. Training programmes are classified into two categories, general programmes and special programmes. Training programmes are conducted in branches like Risk Management, Credit Management, Recovery Management, Internal Control Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing and Quality Improvement, Foreign Exchange, Information Technology. Special programmes are designed based on the recommendations of the Departments at Head Office and Corporate Office, taking into account the Corporate Goals, Policies, requirements, business plans and strategies, target group etc. During 2009, 5014 officers and 6658 workmen employees were trained by the Bank's training system in different functionl areas.
Four batches of Executive Development Programmes, for 99 officers promoted to SMGS IV were organised at SIBM during 2009. All these programmes were specially designed keeping in focus the target group whose themes were "Paradigm Shift - Officer to Executive" , "Executive Excellence", "Innovate and Invigorate" and "Enthuse and Energise".
Executives and Officers are also nominated for specialised training programmes organised by reputed external training institutions. During 2008-09, 124 executives and 211 officers were nominated for such external training programmes. Six executives/ officers were deputed to overseas training programmes.
The corresponding figures during April 2009 - December 2009 are 82, 101 and 5 respectively. During 2009, a special workshop was organised at SIBM on "Financial Inclusion". This workshop was sponsored by Indian Institute of Banking and Finance.
"Adult Learning Principles" is practised in all training programmes, where the emphasis is on group synergy through activities like group discussion, case studies, problem-solving exercises etc.
The Bank has taken initiative for implementation of e-learning system. Details in this regard will be posted shortly.
